Whether you are looking for unique events to do this coming August, or need ideas to spend a day out with your family, friends, or partner, we’ve got you covered!
With it being our jubilee year, and with August being the month of our National Day, expect most of the best events to be involved with our nation’s birthday! There are tons of free events in Singapore happening all around the island this month, but here are our top picks!
1. Jubilee Weekend @ the National Libary
[1 – 28 Aug 2015]
While some of the NLB’s events will only occur from the 8th – 1oth of August, a majority of its free exhibits will be open to the public for the entire month! Kids and lego-enthusiasts will especially like ‘The Little Red Brick’ exhibition, and those who like supporting local artists will have their own share of engaging events!
2. Twentyfifteen.sg: The Exhibition @ the Esplanade
[7 Aug 2015 – 3 Jan 2016]
This photography exhibition at the Esplanade will showcase the work of local photographers and is definitely worth checking out if you would like to see snapshots and portraits of our nation as we celebrate our 50th birthday!
3. Stamp your Story @ the Esplanade
[7 Aug 2015]
For the artsy child! Actually, did you know that the Esplanade hosts an array of free events every month? We were spoilt for choice! Another one of our top picks was Ping Ping Go Round. Check out all their free events in August here. We’re sure you’ll find something that fits your schedule and your tastes (:
4. Awesome August @ Singapore Flyer: An SG50 Flea
[8 & 9 Aug 2015]
Even if you don’t go to flea markets often, consider this SG50 Flea as it will host many local brands, and even have a free movie screening on the 8th! Expect a lot of unique and homegrown finds and one of the best views to the beautiful fireworks display on the 9th of August.
5. Good Morning ‘Cher @ Ang Mo Kio/Suntec City
[14 – 16 and 28 – 30 Aug 2015]
A limited-time event organised by MOE to showcase classroom memories and celebrate teachers! Do not miss this is you want to know how different school life was like in the past, or would just like to take a walk down memory lane if you’re one of our older readers.
We hope that we have given you some ideas on how to spend your weekends and free time this August. For even more ways to spend your National Day weekend, you can check out the Straits Times’ coverage on 6 events to go to during the jubilee weekend!
