Women are slowly but surely gaining more equality in not only the workplace and government, but also in our own households – the amount of paternity leave in Singapore has been extended in the last year so that dads can spend more time caregiving! With every step we make towards gender equality, it’s great to be able to look back and appreciate how far we’ve come.
This month, we’re highlighting a line-up of events happening around Singapore that you can explore with the important women in your lives to celebrate their presence, and also International Women’s Day:
- International Women’s Day 2017 by Startup Asia Women (8th March, 7pm – 10pm)
If you know someone who loves to network and is looking to excel in her career, this conference by Startup Asia Women is the best place to learn more with likeminded women and gain some interesting insights into marketing and business. The best part? It’s free admission for all! Find out more details about the conference here.
- AWARE Block Party (11th March, 2pm – 7pm)
Join AWARE (Association of Women for Action and Research) at their annual Block Party as they’ll be hosting a variety of activities and stalls. From yummy bakes to art, books and pre-loved treasures, you can get all of these from $30 or even free of charge – all in the name of International Women’s Day! You can find out more about the event on the Facebook page here – we’ll especially looking forward to the stall by the beneficiaries of Daughters of Tomorrow (:
- i light marina bay (3rd March – 26th March)
Head out with your girlfriends for an amazing night out as the Marina Bay area will be awash with breathtaking light installations and lively programmes throughout the month of March! This annual affair is Asia’s number one sustainable light festival, and it promises to have never-before-seen artworks such as an installation inspired by the Northen Lights. There will also be a wide array of food and flea markets happening along the bay throughout the month. Check out the many programmes happening here.
- Singapore Design Week 2017 (3rd March – 12th March)
Alternatively, if you’re looking for a more thought-provoking and cultural experience this month, why not take part in one of the many activities happening during the fourth annual Singapore Design Week? Design can refer to multiple things, and we think that this year’s festival has managed to capture that: from workshops on everyday upcycling, to a discussion on eco design, and even an all-day Design Trail around town that will bring you (via free shuttle bus) to innovative talks and places.
