6 Places to Pick Up Painting in Singapore

When was the last time you picked up a paint brush? You may be a budding artist, a hobbyist, or someone who only mixed colours on the canvas in primary school. Regardless of all that, painting stands as a fun activity that is suitable for anyone and everyone. Whether you crave some alone time to re-centre yourself, or you look forward to hanging out with friends and family, painting offers a great environment to express yourself.

Here are some lovely places that offer painting courses that will teach you the tricks of the trade (learn to paint your own greeting cards, instead of buying them from the store!), as well as art jamming sessions where you can let your creativity run wild.

  1. Artify Studio (Pay What You Want)

Artify Studio offers classes for both adults and children, but what makes it stand out is that the studio is actively giving back to the community through its ‘Liberty Art Jam’ sessions. You can pay as much as you want to attend these sessions (food, company and art material are provided), paint your heart out, and be content in knowing that proceeds will go to the beneficiaries of the studio. For instance, they are currently partnering with Breakfast With Love @ Kampong Glam, a food distribution programme.

  1. Art Jam Studio ($30 – 50)

Depending on whether you would like to attend an guided painting class ($50) or would just like to paint freely on your own with friends ($30), Art Jam Studio’s relaxed and open atmosphere will make you feel welcome and imaginative. As it is one of the few local studios to offer a wide space for group painting, you can consider coming by for a family day out or an outing with friends! They also open their art space up on weekdays too.

  1. Cup N Canvas ($50 – 60)

Another option if you would like to paint freely or work under an experienced artist, Cup N Canvas Plus offers 2 hour sessions throughout the week for groups of 3 – 8. A great place if you want to spend time with a larger group of close companions. Did we mention that Cup N Canvas is also a café that is rumoured to brew up some good coffee?

  1. Syk Concept ($59)

For those who like to learn in more quiet and private settings, Syk Concept offers such classes for both adult and young learners. Pick up skills effectively under the direct guidance of your mentor and produce stunning artworks!

  1. Within (~$75)

If you desire to challenge yourself or to learn more detailed skills, have a look at the wide range of classes offered by Within. Their current classes are inspired by CNY and Valentine’s which are coming up fast, and will certainly help you if you want to add a personal touch to cards and messages to your loved ones.

  1. Natalie Studio ($95)

While it may be priciest art space on this list, Natalie Studio’s classes are well worth the money and the time. Take a look at their Instagram and website to see the beautiful techniques they teach in their classes! Whether you are interested in basic watercolour or floral design to brighten up your DIY cards, Natalie Studio offers group and private classes to pass on brush skills that you will be using for a long time to come.
