Convocation ceremonies are around the corner, meaning that a lot of graduates are getting their hands on their robes and planning to take pictures of this memorable milestone of their lives. If you’re one of such graduates, and if you and your friends are looking for places around Singapore to capture breath-taking shots in your graduation gowns, we know that this isn’t an easy choice to make. Apart from scenery, there are a number of other factors to consider: accessibility, lighting, crowds. Taking these into account, here are some recommendations for the best places to take graduation shoots in Singapore:
1. Botanic Gardens
Singapore first UNESCO World Heritage Site is probably at the top of everyone’s list. This is for good reason too because it is a beautiful, open space which is great for groups no matter how small or big they are. However, shelter can be sparse here, which may deter some due to the hot morning and afternoon sun that can shine here on a sunny day. Our advice is to come early in the morning, just as the sun is rising, to get some key shots. Wrap up your photoshoot before lunch, or else you may end up sweating buckets in your robes!
You may also want to come on a weekday is possible, as crowds on the weekends are guaranteed at this popular tourist destination.
2. Fort Cannning Hill
Looking for a more regal and polished look in your photos? Fort Canning Hill is a great place that has beats of European architecture alongside the luscious green of nature. Within walking distance from Dhoby Ghaut MRT, the journey up the hill will be worth it if you want dynamic and varied shots. From peaceful green fields to historical architecture such as the Fort Gate, you can get really creative here!
3. Victoria Theatre & Concert Hall
Another picturesque backdrop with stylish European influences, the Victoria Theatre’s pure white exterior will frame your photos well. Additionally, the theatre is located next to the Singapore River, which is another great place to hold a photoshoot. To avoid tourists getting into your shots, why not try catching a ride on a river taxi to liven up your photos?
Also located near Victoria Theatre is the Esplanade! We’re including Esplanade on this list not only because it is an iconic landmark but also because it will serve as a great place to take graduation photos in case of rain. The ambience of the library@Esplanade and the lighting will suit bookworms and those who want a more sophisticated photoshoot.
5. Punggol Waterway
Although not an accessible location, especially for those who don’t stay in the Northeast of Singapore, Punggol Waterway is a beautiful destination that is probably being overlooked by many! Certainly much less crowded than all the other places listed here, the waterway offers great shots due to the careful planning and positioning of greenery and architecture. The Kelong Bridge (near Punggol SAFRA) in particular is a great place to take a variety of shots with friends. Underneath another bridge, you will find vines creeping up the walls – great for a portrait shot or for an OOTD photo. The journey here will be worth the clean shots and also make us appreciate our heartlands much more (:
